Ham is a great holiday staple. Isn’t it the best when you walk into the kitchen and a smell brings you back to a childhood memory? For me, it brings back memories of grandma’s cooking during the holidays as a kid.
Ham is a fantastic for a great feast but it also makes for a great meal for meal planning on weekdays. Simply cook at the start of the week and use the leftovers to meal-plan recipes. Cooking Tips:
- First off, this recipe is for a pre-cooked ham. If you have a classic country ham you are going to need to add on several hours to your cooking time.
- The best place to find a ham without the antibiotics and preservatives, and even dairy is your local farm. Our local Farmers Market has whole and half hams that are fresh, smoked, specialized, and without the nastys.
- Another tip is to tent the ham with foil while cooking for the first hour. This is a great way to hold all the moisture so you have a nice, juicy bite. Wait to glaze the ham until after you remove the foil so that it browns and the honey can caramelize on the tips of the meat.
- Finally, you’re going to want to use a roasting pan. I’ve cooked a ham on a baking sheet before because we didn’t have a rack and it just wasn’t the same. (However, it can be done!) The heat circulates around the entire ham this way so it cooks evenly.
Money Saving Tip:
As I mentioned above, finding a ham at your local farm will be one of the best ways to get you a “clean” ham without all the preservatives. This is also a great way to save money. Our local farm has pre-smoked hams for $30 for about 10lbs while comparatively our grocery store (which was also loaded with preservatives, dairy, antibiotics, ect.) were selling them for $50 for a 10lb ham. So think local.

- 1 10-15 lb fully cooked ham
- 2 whole Oranges juice and zest removed
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1/4 cup maple mustard by PaleoChef (you can use compliant honey mustard as well)
- 1/2 cup Honey
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Black pepper
- 1/2 tsp Paprika

- Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Line rack on roasting pan with foil. Place ham on top of the foil and then tent the foil over the ham. Place ham in the oven for 60 minutes.
- In a food processor (or blender) combine remaining ingredients. Puree until smooth. Set aside.
- After the ham has heated in the oven for 60 minuets, remove the foil and drip the glaze over the ham. Return to the oven for the remaining 30 minuets. About half way through, re-glaze the ham with the drippings on the bottom of the pan.
- Once the ham is heated through, glaze one more time with the drippings. Allow the ham to rest for about 15 minuets and then serve. Enjoy!
