Homemade Apple Butter

Apple butter is one of my favorite fall staples. I remember as a kid, my family and I would always go to the farm for apples and/or pumpkins and I always made sure to get a fresh jar of apple butter. It was my favorite part of our little fall outings and I would eat though that jar so fast! I would use it on crackers or on my dads fresh biscuits on a Saturday morning. Apple butter will always take me back to those great memories.

Unfortunately, I have yet to find a batch of apple butter in a farm or store that isn’t filled with processed sugar. So I began the challenge to learn how to make it myself.

This apple butter is just amazing! It tastes like fall in a jar and captures ever fall spice you can imagine. I use honey instead of sugar so it is naturally sweet. This apple butter is incredibly easy to whip up and takes hardly any preparation. I bet you even have the ingredients at home right now!

What You’ll Need:
6 apples
1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 c honey
2 tbsp coconut oil
1/4 cup water

How to Prepare:
Slice apples into about 6 piece slices—more or less will be fine it will be blended at the end anyway.
Remove the core and keep the skin on. (The skin holds a significant amount of nutrients so I always keep it on!)
Toss all ingredients into a crockpot and give everything a good stir.

Turn the slow cooker on low and cook for 6 hours.
After cooking is complete, scoop all the apples into a blender. (Be sure to also include any liquid.)
Blend until all the chunks are broken down.

Pour apple butter into serving dish or into an airtight container. You can leave in the refrigerator for about a week. Or freeze for 6 months!

Simple, Right? Enjoy!
